ChickTech: High School is a year-long series of opportunities for 100 young women in each city, providing hands-on workshops, mentoring, and internship opportunities. It supplements traditional education and provides a supportive community for young women to learn how to create technology. We focus on recruiting girls who do not see themselves as technical but who have the aptitude to do very well in technical fields. We place additional emphasis on recruiting at-risk and low-income participants. (https://chicktech.org/highschool/)
ChickTech supplements mentoring, workshops, and internships with career opportunities covering employment related and social and personal related events for what I would call a total approach to technical career wellness. Maintaining 13 chapters across the US and looking for volunteers to begin in new cities, ChickTech offers a lot to girls beyond just education and careers in technical fields, it offers a community nationwide with opportunities and local community support. These types of opportunities create more than "smart chicks" - they create a foundation and a future with an approach to life and work many of us could have used when we were in high school.
